General Information

Please note that there may be path disruptions throughout the Garden for important maintenance and horticultural projects. The Redwood Grove may be closed for Rentals or special events. Please check the Grove schedule at the bottom of this page. The Tropical House is closed for interior renovations. Please call ahead if you are interested in accessing a particular area.

Accessibility: We welcome all visitors and are actively working on accessibility improvements. The grounds include areas of paved pathways, as well as unpaved paths that may be narrow, rocky, uneven, or steep. There are three accessible parking spots available in the main Garden parking lot. Trained service dogs are allowed to enter the Garden grounds but must first check in and be cleared at the Kiosk by Garden staff.

Group Admission

Admission for groups of 20 or more people must be made by email reservation in advance to guarantee admittance together. Email your date, time, and details to garden@berkeley.edu to make arrangements.

Purchase Admission to the UC Botanical Garden

Reservations are recommended to enter the Garden unless you are a UCBG Member or UC affiliate.
Reservation slots are released every Thursday for reservations up to 6-weeks out.
Select your arrival time window, either 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM or 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The Garden closes at 5:00 PM.
The Garden is closed every Tuesday for maintenance and special projects.

UCBG for All: Reduced and Free Admission Programs

The Garden welcomes the entire community and offers free and reduced admission opportunities to lower barriers of entry.

Visit – UC Botanical Garden (1)

UCBG is a proud partner in Museums for All, a collaborative initiative of the Institute of Museum and Library Services that ensures every child and family has access to a world-class museum experience by offering reduced admission. Guests with an EBT card can receive discounted $3 Admission for up to four individuals maximum per card. UCBG online reservations are recommended with Museums For All. Guests show their EBT card with valid ID at the Kiosk.

UCBG is a partner of Discover & Go, a nationally recognized museum pass program that provides current California library cardholders with free and discounted tickets to local museums and cultural institutions. The Garden pass includes 1 free adult and 1 free junior admission. Limit 1 pass redemption per year; blackout dates apply. UCBG online reservations are not required with Discover & Go. Guests show their Discover & Go Pass with valid ID at the Kiosk

What if I arrive late/early?

Arriving within your 3-hour window (10:00 am – 1:00pm or 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) will make your entrance a smoother experience, however your pre-purchased admission is good for the entire day. Contact us if you would like to move your reservation to a different day by calling 510-643-2755 to reschedule.

Can I purchase admission at the entrance?

Yes, you may purchase tickets at the entrance however to reduce wait time at the entrance we encourage purchasing tickets in advance online. The exceptions are UCBG Members and UC affiliates who are not required to make a reservation.

How many tickets can I reserve?

There is a 20-person limit to regular reservations. Admission for groups above 20 people must be made by email reservation in advance to guarantee admittance together. Email your date, time, and details to garden@berkeley.edu to make arrangements.

For class visits, go to our or Tours page for more information and to fill out a request form, at least one month in advance.

Can I make a reservation over the phone?

If you are having difficulty making an online reservation, please call 510-643-2755 (CA Relay Service) to check availability and, with confirmation, pay at the Gate.

How do I know my reservation went through?

You will know if your reservation went through ONLY if you received a confirmation email.

Do I need a reservation for my child?

Yes. All children will need to be included in your reservation even if free.

I’m a Member; do I need a reservation for my guests?

Members do not need an advance reservation for the number of guests associated with their Membership level or when using their Guest Passes. Advance reservations are recommended for any guests outside of your membership package that must pay for entry. Visit our website for more information about membership level packages at botanicalgarden.berkeley.edu/membership. You may also pay at the Gate.

Can I bring my pet?

Pets are not allowed in the Garden due to the sensitivity of the plant collection. Only trained service dogs are permitted, but must first check in and be cleared at the Kiosk by Garden staff. The Garden follows these campus guidelines.

Can I bring a picnic to the Garden?

Outside food is allowed (no catering without a Rental contract). Enjoy your picnic at one of our many tables, benches or on the lawn. Please use nearby receptacles for trash, compost and recycling. Alcohol in not permitted per UC policy.

Can I take family/wedding/commercial photos or video at the Garden?

Restrictions apply. Please find our photography and video guidelines here.

What is your cancellation/exchange policy?

If you find you will be unable to make your date of reservation, please call 510-643-2755 to reschedule.

I’m interested in visiting the Redwood Grove. Is it open?

The Grove is regularly open from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, but does close for both private rentals and Garden-related events.
