How to activate mobile payments
We’ve made it easy for our customers to activate mobile payments. Find the instructions for your payment app below.
Pay on the go with mobile payments
Mobile payments are a secure means of payment that is always at your fingertips.
- Leave your physical card at home and pay with your phone or other smart device wherever you are – in stores, restaurants or public transportation.
- To make mobile payments abroad, simply update the area where your card can be used to include your destination in your card settings in Nordea Mobile or Netbank.
- Buying is quicker online and in apps if you use mobile payments. You only need to enter your payment details in the payment app once.
Mobile payments are safe
- The number of your payment card is not saved in any apps or to your smart device and it is not disclosed to the merchant during the payment transaction.
- A virtual version of your card is created in the payment app and its information is kept secure.
- You can confirm payments with Touch ID, Face ID or your PIN, depending on your device.
- If your phone is lost, you can block your virtual card and continue to use the physical card normally.

Payment apps in smartwatches and other wearables
You can add your Nordea payment card to smartwatches, jewellery and keyfobs that enable contactless payments.
How to connect your Nordea card to a wearable
- Download a payment app to your phone that is compatible with your wearable.
- Add your Nordea card to the payment app.
- Confirm in Nordea Mobile that you want to use your card with your wearable. Open Nordea Mobile and select your card. Then under Settings, select ‘Manage devices’ and confirm with the Nordea ID app that you want to use your card with your wearable.
The easiest way to add your card to Apple Pay or Google Pay is through our mobile banking app. Open Nordea Mobile and select your card. Then under Settings, select ‘Add to Apple Wallet/Google Pay’.

You can use your smartphone to make payments if: Paying with your smartphone in stores When you are at the checkout in a store, hold your phone near the payment terminal to make a contactless payment. Note that the payment terminal must support contactless payments. Just look for the contactless payment symbol on the payment terminal. Paying with your smartphone online You can also pay with your phone in many online stores and apps. Select Apple Pay or Google Pay as your payment method and confirm the payment. No, you do not. Smartphones have the NFC technology (Near Field Communication), which enables contactless payments without an internet connection. Thanks to tokenisation, the number of your payment card is not saved on your phone or in the app and it is not disclosed to the merchant in the transaction. When you pay with a smartphone, the payment terminal may ask you to confirm the payment with your fingerprint, face ID or PIN. Mobile payments are subject to the payment and geographical restrictions you have set for your physical card. For example, if you restrict the use of your physical card to Finland, then you can make mobile payments only in Finland. If you lose your phone, nobody can see your card details or make payments with your phone without identity verification. However, you can block the digital version of your card by calling Nordea Customer Service. After this you can continue to use your physical card normally. To make mobile payments, all you need to do is add your payment card to a mobile payment app and use a smart device – your phone or a wearable like a watch, ring or keyfob – to pay. If you have activated more than one card on your phone, you can block them all in the same call. You can continue to use the physical card normally.
