Walt Disney World is revamping its Genie+ service, effective July 24, 2024. The service will be rebranded: Disney Genie+ will become the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and individual Lightning Lane entries will be called Lightning Lane Single Pass. These changes aim to simplify planning by allowing guests to make selections in advance, blending features from the current system with the old FastPass+.
Key Features of the New Lightning Lane Passes
Guests can now book Lightning Lane plans ahead of their visit—up to 7 days in advance for resort guests and 3 days for non-resort guests. They can choose experiences and times before purchasing and plan for multiple days in one go.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
The Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows guests to make up to 3 advance selections per park and choose specific times. Additional selections can be made on the day of the visit through the My Disney Experience app. Attractions are divided into two tiers at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT, with one selection from the first tier and two from the second. There are no tiers at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Lightning Lane Single Pass
Lightning Lane Single Pass will still allow guests to secure a time for the most popular attractions, but now they can plan and purchase in advance. Featured attractions on the Single Pass not included in the Multi Pass are TRON Lightcycle/Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Hollywood Studios, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, and AVATAR Flight of Passage at Animal Kingdom
Advanced Planning Options
Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels and select other hotels can book their Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days before their visit for their entire stay, up to 14 days. Other guests can book up to 3 days in advance. This advance planning window helps guests secure must-do experiences while considering dining reservations and other plans.
Easier Purchasing and Managing Passes
The updated My Disney Experience app will streamline the purchase and planning process, enabling guests to buy both Multi and Single Passes in a single transaction.
Disneyland Resort Updates
The new Lightning Lane names will also be adopted at Disneyland Resort starting July 24, though the purchasing, selection, and redemption processes will remain unchanged there.
Disney assures that the complimentary features of the Disney Genie service will still be available in both the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps.
Final Takeaways
Disney World’s changes to the Genie+ and Lightning Lane services, effective July 24, 2024, are set to improve the guest experience by allowing more efficient planning. The introduction of the Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass means visitors can book in advance, reducing the need for on-the-spot decisions. These updates showcase Disney’s effort to ensure that guests can enjoy a more seamless and magical visit.
